Since 2013, Silk String Music has been conducting workshops for various primary and secondary schools, as well as universities. We have collaborated with institutions such as East Doncaster Secondary College, Wantirna College, Confucius Institute at the University of Melbourne and at La Trobe University.
Workshop Includes
- Presentation on the history of the instrument
- Structure of the instrument
- Techniques of playing the instrument
- Key differences between Chinese instruments and their counterparts from other parts of Asia
- Performance section, where our principal teacher or our professional performers showcase a traditional piece
Learn, Practice, Perform
The final segment involves audience interaction, where students are divided into small groups to learn the basics of music theory, recognise the order of strings and notes, and practice basic performing techniques. By the end of the workshop, each participant will be able to play a short piece.
Format & Instruments
The instruments we showcase in these workshops include the Guzheng, Erhu, and Pipa. Each workshop focuses on one instrument and lasts approximately 60 minutes, with a maximum of 24 participants. If there are more participants, we recommend extending the workshop duration.
